The Barber of Seville - Meet Figaro, everyone's favourite barber, in Rossini's Comic Opera, "The Barber of Seville". Not just a barber, he will do anything, as long as he gets paid. His famous aria "Largo al factotum" is a tounge-twisting account of his hectic life, a "patter" song ending in a string of la-la-las.
Since it opened in Rome in 1816 the opera has entertained thousands, never failing to tickle funny-bones. The plot has many a twist, mistaken identities, love-lorn lovers, dastardly old roués, an elopment foiled by a missing ladder, and a gun-point wedding. The music is well-known and enchanting, fun from start to finish. Rossini hoped to be remembered by this opera.
The Jeunesses Musicales production is performed by some of Canada's finest young singers. Viva Opera Buffa! (Comic)
