Spotlight - Shane Cook & The Woodchippers

The Spotlight: Shane Cook & The Woodchippers

On Sunday, November 5th, Shane Cook & The Woodchippers will grace the stage at Aultsville Theatre thanks to our friends at Cornwall Concert Series, and it promises to be a toe-tapping good time for all ages!

This will be the third performance in the 2023-2024 season for the Cornwall Concert Series and second matinee of the season. Doors open at 1pm, and the show begins at 2pm.

So far, the response to Sunday afternoon performances has been positive. “We’ve had a lot of encouraging comments about matinee performances” series chairman Scott Peterson shares. “We hope that going forward it might be easier to get students out with their parents to a matinee performance rather than an evening concert.”

The Cornwall Concert Series organizers are confident that the group will shine for the Cornwall audience. Having first seen the group at 2015’s Ontario Contact, and again last year at the same event organizers knew this would be a great fit for this season.

So, what can guests expect from Sunday’s event?

Shane leads a joyous and diverse musical journey through fresh, original fiddle tunes and songs on Be Here for a While, the debut album from Shane Cook & The Woodchippers. Having first premiered the music of Be Here for a While with the International Symphony Orchestra the band has since toured the album across Canada and the US in 2022. The band and album were 2022 Canadian Folk Music Award nominees for Instrumental Group of the Year and Traditional Album of the Year.

Who is Shane Cook?

Shane is a Canadian and US National fiddle champion. As a multi-instrumentalist, Shane captivates audiences with both a technically thrilling and adventurous performance.

Together, Shane Cook & The Woodchippers deliver performances that are an exciting mix of dynamic musicianship, high energy, and engaging stage presence. They rely on their deep foundation in traditional music, song, and dance of Ontario for their core sound, yet also draw on styles as broad as folk, Celtic, roots, bluegrass and swing. Without fail, their Ottawa Valley style step dancing always electrifies the crowd.

Who makes up the Woodchippers?

The Woodchippers are a four-member group of multi-instrumentalists, singers and step dancers including: Emily Flack (Leahy) on piano, vocals and dance, Joe Phillips (Art of Time Ensemble) on vocals, double bass and guitar, and Kyle Waymouth (five-time national step dance champion) on guitar, tenor banjo and dance.
