Head Usher / Box Office Attendant position

 

Aultsville Theatre Management is seeking to fill the Head Usher / Box Office Attendant position.

Aultsville Theatre is a non-profit volunteer driven arts organization with a unique mandate: to develop and support the performing arts across Cornwall, Stormont, Dundas, & Glengarry (SD&G) by providing resources, networking, and advocacy for both the professional and community sectors.

Position Summary

Under the guidance and supervision of the Audience Services & Volunteer Coordinator (ASVC), this position is an important component to the efficient operation of audience related activities (ticketing, box office, greeting and seating, volunteer usher oversight) during an event. This position is critical to the delivery of personable and positive customer service, and will involve direct contact with the public and the Theatre’s clients. In addition to being a good communicator, the successful applicant will be able to display a high level of accuracy, efficiency and professionalism.

General responsibilities of the position include:

Greet customer and clients; provide superb customer service to all attending the theatre.

Enforce the theatre policies and procedures that relate to the front of house and audience services. (ie. Ticketing policies, health and safety)

Foster teamwork: Work cooperatively and effectively with others. Coordinate and assign duties and tasks to volunteer ushers.

Assist with receptions, special events, intermissions, artist meet-and-greets, merchandise sales, informational/promotional displays, and other pre/post-event activities.

Ensure that the ambiance, appearance, and general condition of lobby, box office, auditorium, restrooms and other patron accessible areas of the facility are appropriately maintained and presentable.

Attend meetings and/or training as required. 

Any other tasks or administrative work as requested and required

Main show / event responsibilities of the position include:

Complete front of house duties as assigned by the ASVC, to ensure the front of house operates professionally and efficiently.

Care and supervision of the public before, during and after performances to ensure their comfort, enjoyment and safety. Pay attention to customer care for patrons requiring preferred or special seating or assistance.

Assist with the audience services amenities, including ticketing, coat check, water sales and lost and found. Provide direction and information where necessary.

Ensure the box office operates professionally and efficiently; receive and process payments in exchange for tickets/admission; follow and uphold ticketing policies (babes-in-arms, returns, exchanges)safeguard personal information collected during ticketing purchase transactions.

Provide information to customers (ticket pricing, show details, seating).

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

Minimum 2 years customer service experience in a busy environment or ideally in a theatre environment.

Minimum 1 year cashier or box office experience; prior knowledge of ticketing practices and systems preferred but not necessary.

Excellent communication skills, problem-solving and organizational skills; strong command of English in both written and oral communication. Bilingualism will be considered an asset

Ability to work independently and with diverse groups, including volunteers.

Ability to handle stressful situations calmly, rationally and tactfully.

Available to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends and statutory holidays.

Working conditions:

Physical demands - moderate to high; constant standing and walking throughout shift during events; frequent lifting and carrying (ie. cases of water, stanchions, ticket boxes); occasional kneeling, pushing, and pulling; frequent ascending and descending ramps and stairs; frequent low light conditions.
